From Concept to Career: Elissa Folino '25 Discovers Her Path Through RESpresso
When Resurrection College Prep launched its first-ever student-run coffee shop, RESpresso, it was more than just a morning caffeine stop—it was a launchpad for student talent and creativity. For senior Elissa Folino ’25, the project became something even more personal: the moment she discovered her future career.
Elissa was a key player in the marketing side of RESpresso, contributing both design skills and creative direction to the project. “I made the design for our class sweatshirts and created advertisements for our drink specials,” she explained. “My design was ultimately chosen for the sweatshirts and used on stickers and other materials. It was so rewarding to see my work become part of something real.”
Elissa first got involved through her Intro to Business class, which was tasked with launching the café from the ground up. Her love for design and interest in promotional work naturally drew her to the marketing efforts behind the scenes. “I’ve always been interested in creating new things, especially things that can benefit my peers,” she said. “Designing was definitely my favorite part.”
That passion took root in a defining classroom moment. “I remember presenting my potential design for the sweatshirt to the class and getting such a positive response. That’s when it clicked for me—I realized I was good at this and wanted to keep going.”
While Elissa had previously considered marketing as a possible career, RESpresso solidified it. “I’ve always liked the idea of promoting things and bringing creative concepts to life,” she said. “But this project really confirmed it for me. I saw how every part of marketing works together, and it made me realize that this is what I want to do.”
Through the project, Elissa gained more than just experience. She learned patience, how to accept constructive feedback, and how to engage an audience through print and digital advertising. “Marketing isn’t always fast or easy,” she said. “But the process—the teamwork, the learning, the creativity—is so worth it.”
After graduating in May, Elissa will spend her summer with friends and family before starting a new chapter at DePaul University, where she plans to major in marketing. “Resurrection helped me find this path,” she reflected. “I’ve had the chance to take new classes and meet people who’ve pushed me to explore what I love.”
Looking back, Elissa is proud of what she and her classmates created—and excited for the legacy they’re leaving behind. “It feels really special to know that something we built is going to stick around for future RES girls,” she said. “RESpresso is something I would’ve loved when I started here, and now it’s something I helped create.”
Her advice to underclassmen still searching for their path? “Give it time. It’ll come to you through what you experience and love. That’s what happened to me.”
