Bandit Leaders in Action: Hazel Liban ’27 & Paola Espinosa ’27 Shine at HOBY

This summer, Resurrection juniors Hazel Liban and Paola Espinosa, both members of the Class of 2027, had the opportunity to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar, a nationally recognized program designed to empower high school students to unlock their leadership potential and drive positive change in their communities.

Nominated by Principal Dr. Patricia Caine, Hazel called the experience “eye-opening.”

“We discovered our values and identities and how they connect to leadership,” Hazel shared. “I met so many new and friendly people. The experience was simply outstanding.”

Paola shared similar reflections, describing her HOBY weekend as “nothing short of fantastic.” She made lasting friendships, discovered more about herself, and was inspired by the impactful speakers she had the chance to hear.

And she’s just getting started, Paola already has plans to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress next summer in Washington, D.C.

Both students are eager to bring what they learned back to Resurrection.

“I hope to bring what I learned into my life at RES,” Hazel said, “and sincerely hope more Bandits will have the same opportunity.”

We are incredibly proud of Hazel and Paola for embracing this leadership journey with enthusiasm and heart. Special thanks to Dr. Caine for continuing to support opportunities that help our students grow as confident, compassionate leaders.
