Building Community and Tradition: The Importance of RES’ New House System

This fall, Resurrection College Prep introduced its brand-new House System, a student-life model designed to unite students across all grade levels, fostering community, leadership, and school spirit. For Junior Olivia Magruder, the concept feels both exciting and familiar.

Olivia first experienced a house system during her middle school years at Immaculate Conception, where the program shaped her student experience in lasting ways.

“In middle school, we had a big sorting ceremony on the first day with a sorting hat, just like in Harry Potter,” she recalled. “The houses all had saint names and colors, and each of us received a t-shirt to wear for Mass days. Once a month, we had house challenges, sometimes sports, sometimes academic, and they were always a fun way to bring everyone together.”

For Olivia, the most memorable part wasn’t just the events, but the friendships. “I met people I never would have known otherwise, competing in house competitions made me feel part of something bigger than my grade.”

That sense of connection gave her the confidence to take the next step in her school journey. “It made me feel ready for high school,” she said.

Looking at Resurrection’s new House System, Olivia sees the same potential. “It prepares you for life, because you learn how to interact with people of all ages. It inspires leadership and a sense of community, wanting the absolute best for your house.”

As Resurrection begins its first year with the Houses of Caritas, Fides, Veritas, and Unitas, Olivia is most excited about the opportunities ahead. “I love the idea of being a leader on the house council, competing in challenges, and meeting new people.”

Her advice for students entering the system for the first time is simple but powerful: “Be open to it, it’s important to branch out and meet new people.”

Rooted in our Lasallian values and unique all-girls tradition, the House System at Resurrection will give every student a chance to build friendships, grow as leaders, and create new traditions that will shape the Bandit journey for years to come.
