Class of 2024 Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremony

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, Holy Name Cathedral became a beacon of celebration as we welcomed 105 new alumnae to the storied Resurrection College Prep community. These graduates joined a distinguished network of more than 15,000 alumnae, marking a significant milestone as Resurrection College Prep celebrated its 99th graduating class.

The evening was graced with speeches from the valedictorian, Mary Sclafani, and the salutatorian, Antonella Sessa, who both epitomize the academic excellence and leadership that Resurrection fosters.

Mary Sclafani, a graduate of Saint Eugene School in Chicago, IL, finished her high school career with a 4.6266 grade point average. Her achievements extend beyond academics; she has served as the vice president of the National Honors Society (NHS), founded and led the STREAM Club, and contributed to the RES Banner’s editorial staff.

Mary's academic journey will continue at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN, where she has been accepted into the prestigious Noblitt Scholars Program. This program is a highly competitive full-ride scholarship that supports students who demonstrate exceptional potential in STEM fields. As a Noblitt Scholar, Mary will receive comprehensive financial support covering tuition, room and board, and additional academic expenses, allowing her to fully focus on her studies in Engineering Design.

Antonella Sessa, a graduate of Immaculate Conception School in Chicago, IL, graduated with a 4.5196 grade point average. She has been a dynamic leader as the co-editor of the RES Banner and president of the Political Science Club. In addition, Antonella has excelled athletically, serving as captain of both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

Antonella will be pursuing her passion for political science at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Her commitment to both academics and athletics highlights the well-rounded education that Resurrection College Prep provides.

A cherished tradition of the graduation ceremony was the alumnae presentation, which honored 17 alumnae and their daughters who graduated together. This heartwarming tribute underscores the enduring legacy and familial connections within the Resurrection community.

The Class of 2024 has much to be proud of. Collectively, they were awarded scholarships totaling an astounding $4,383,572, an impressive achievement for a class of just 105 students. Additionally, six students received offers to compete in collegiate athletics through the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

For the eleventh consecutive year, Resurrection College Prep maintained a 100% college acceptance rate, a testament to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and student success.

Bailey Scianna, a distinguished alumna from the Class of 2013 and current teacher, was awarded the Lasallian Distinguished Educator Award. This prestigious accolade is given to individuals who have been part of the Resurrection community for at least three years and who exemplify the Lasallian hallmarks of faith, service, and community. Bailey’s dedication to advancing these principles within the Resurrection community has made her a deserving recipient of this honor.

As the newest graduates of Resurrection College Prep step forward into the world, they carry with them the values, knowledge, and experiences that have shaped their high school years. The Class of 2024 leaves behind a legacy of achievement and sets a high standard for future classes to follow. We congratulate each graduate and look forward to the many successes that lie ahead for them.
