Resurrection College Prep Celebrates Record-High AP Scores

Resurrection College Prep Celebrates Record-High AP Scores

Resurrection College Prep's Advanced Placement (AP) scores have reached their highest level in five years! This school year, we saw a remarkable 17% increase in our cumulative AP scores compared to last year, with 68% of our AP students achieving a score of 3 or higher. Achieving a score of 3 or higher is significant as it qualifies students to receive college credit for their coursework.

In addition to this overall improvement, we've seen notable advancements in several specific areas. The chart below highlights the percentage of Resurrection College Prep students who received a 3 or higher on their exams compared to the national average released by the College Board:

While our scores in math and science courses did not meet or exceed the national average, these improvements are a testament to our commitment to academic excellence and student success.

  • Calculus AB -  42% increase
  • Biology - 32% increase
  • Environmental Science - 20% increase

We attribute the significant improvement in our AP scores to several key factors. Our AP teachers have embraced year-round best practices, utilizing the College Board course maps to enhance student learning and mastery of AP content and skills. This collaborative approach has been instrumental in driving student success. Teachers like Ms. Coakley and Ms. Guistino dedicated extra time to participate in College Board AP mentoring. Additionally, Ms. McGrath collaborated with a successful AP teacher in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system, further enriching our instructional methods and student outcomes.

Earlier this summer, Dr. Piwowarski announced members of our science department attended the AP Summer Institutes at Northwestern University and Loyola University Chicago. This program supports new and experienced AP teachers in all aspects of AP course content, organization, and methodology. Ms. Trausch will be attending AP Computer Science training, Mr. Hawker completed AP Seminar, and Ms. Montanille completed AP Environmental Science training. These professional development opportunities have been crucial in equipping our teachers with the latest strategies and knowledge to foster student success.

Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, Dr. Giannoulis will continue to lead an AP Professional Learning Community. This initiative will allow all AP teachers to share instructional practices that build on the strength of our current AP scores and further enhance our students' academic achievements. By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for our teachers, we are confident that our students will continue to excel in their AP coursework and beyond.
