Resurrection College Prep Prepares for 4th Annual STREAM Symposium

Resurrection College Prep is eagerly preparing for the 4th Annual STREAM Symposium, set to take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This event is a celebration of academic excellence and innovation, providing students the opportunity to showcase their interdisciplinary projects to an audience of family and friends. Hosted by Resurrection's pioneering STREAM Program, the Symposium highlights the remarkable achievements of students and showcases the transformative power of a holistic education.

Inaugurated in the fall of 2019, Resurrection's STREAM Program stands as a beacon of educational innovation. STREAM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Math, embodies the school's commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Unlike conventional STEM or STEAM models, Resurrection's STREAM curriculum integrates a Catholic worldview, emphasizing not only academic skill but also ethical and moral considerations in problem-solving.

The Symposium serves as a culmination of months of dedicated effort and intellectual exploration by students enrolled in the STREAM Program. This year, students have developed projects that tackle real-world issues with creativity, research, and problem-solving skills. Here are some of the standout projects being featured:

Energy Drinks: How They Affect Heart Rate of Daphnia – Nicole Dworakowski & Haley Blomstrand are investigating how energy drinks impact heart rate and oxygen levels, using Daphnia Magna as a test subject to explore the physiological effects of caffeine and additives on the body.

Testing the Authenticity of Eco-Friendly Materials: A Decomposition Study – Pherrin Magis & Natalie Malloy are evaluating commonly used eco-friendly and recyclable materials to determine if they truly decompose as advertised by conducting decomposition tests in simulated natural environments.

Hair Dazzlers – Emily Verdon & Isabel Mendoza have created an app that helps women find the best hair care products for their hair type, making it easier to access personalized recommendations for healthy hair.

Brace Buddy – Molly O’Toole developed an app to help scoliosis patients track their brace wear time, incorporating a time tracker, note-taking features, a calendar, and even an interactive pet for motivation.

Mindful Melody – Grace Dombrowski, Alyssa Martin & Grace McNamara have designed an app focused on music therapy, offering personalized playlists and song recommendations based on mood to promote emotional well-being.

Chris Hawker, the Interim STREAM Director at Resurrection, emphasizes the significance of the Symposium in nurturing students' talents and fostering a culture of innovation. "The STREAM Symposium at Resurrection College Prep is crucial for our students as it provides a platform for them to showcase their talents, innovations, and collaborative efforts across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics disciplines," says Hawker. "It fosters a culture of exploration, creativity, and critical thinking, empowering our young women to excel in fields traditionally underrepresented by females and prepare them for future academic and professional endeavors."

Since its inception, the STREAM Program has left a significant mark on the Resurrection community, impacting the lives of hundreds of students and reshaping the landscape of education. As the Symposium approaches, anticipation runs high, with students eager to share their discoveries and insights with a captivated audience. Each project represents a unique blend of academic rigor and personal passion, demonstrating the power of interdisciplinary learning.

As Resurrection College Prep prepares to open its doors to an exclusive gathering of family and friends, the STREAM Symposium stands as a testament to the school's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and holistic education. In showcasing the remarkable achievements of its students, the Symposium not only celebrates their successes but also reaffirms Resurrection's mission to empower future leaders equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation to shape a better world.
