Scholarships

The Christine Olender STREAM Scholarship in Honor of Conrad is available to incoming freshmen enrolling in the four-year STREAM program. This is for this four-year renewable merit-based scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to (2) incoming freshmen who are accepted into the STREAM program. 

Scholarship Terms: Each recipient will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship renewable annually if the student maintains a 3.7-grade point average and completes a STREAM portfolio. The applicants are required to write an essay explaining their interest in pursuing a career in a science, math, or technology field, what career(s) interest them, and what ‘sparked’ their interest in the RES STREAM program.

 At the end of every school year, the scholarship recipients will be required to create a portfolio of their best work and present their portfolio to the science curriculum coordinator, school president, invited faculty, and the donor. The recipients will receive support from their STREAM teacher and the science curriculum coordinator. The scholarship applications will be reviewed by a Resurrection committee and the applications will be kept confidential.

The Class of 1969 Scholarship in Memory of Sr. Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R. was established through the generosity of the alumnae of the Resurrection Class of 1969. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman in gratitude to Sr. Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R. for the guidance she provided as Principal of Resurrection for 10 years.

Applicants must be an incoming freshman, demonstrate financial need via a completed FACTS financial aid application and submit an essay using the prompt below.

Scholarship Application

The Pay It Forward scholarship is established in honor of Arthur J. Slack (CPD, CFD) and George D. Slack (CPD) and their service to the City of Chicago. It is funded through the generosity of Nancy Slack Stachnik, Class of 1967 and members of the Slack family.

The applicant must be an incoming freshman student enrolled for the upcoming school year. The student must have a parent who is an active-duty Chicago firefighter, paramedic, or police officer. The family must also have demonstrated need. This is a one-time award. Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually.

Scholarship application

The Ernst and Mabel Sterner Scholarship was established by Ernst and Mabel's daughter Susan Sterner-Aydinian (Class of 1969) and her husband Gene Aydinian in loving memory of Susan's parents. Ernst and Mabel were caring, hard-working, and creative people who instilled in Susan a love for education and the ability to think for herself. This scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman who shows great academic potential through her display of critical thinking. It is renewable for the awardee so long as she remains a student at RES and in academic good standing. 

The annual disbursement amount of this scholarship can vary, but is typically between $2,000 and $3,500 per year.

Thanks to the tremendous generosity of Christine’s family, friends and fellow Resurrection alumnae, an endowed scholarship fund provides for a $1000 scholarship each year to students of Polish decent to both acknowledge the Olender family heritage, but, also the Sisters of the Resurrection. The scholarship is open to incoming, freshmen, sophomore, and juniors of Polish decent. The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need and the student’s commitment to her Polish heritage.

Jann DeLaMoreaux, OCDS graduated from Resurrection College Prep High School in 1966. Jann moved to California but continued to be a generous supporter of her alma mater, Resurrection. Jann was an avid reader and a devoted Catholic. She was a member of the secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. Upon her death in 2019, she left a generous scholarship fund to Resurrection College Prep High School entitled “Devotion to Books Scholarship". Eligibility selection of the recipients of this scholarship should be made annually and based upon the following criteria:

A young woman enrolling/attending Resurrection College Prep High School who:

• Enjoys reading – a “bookworm”
• Has a current grade point average of 2.0 (C) or higher
• Is recommended by the faculty
• The Devotion to Books Scholarship provides a $1,500 one-year award
• One scholarship is awarded annually

This scholarship is open to incoming freshmen and current freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

The Elaine Zold-Koepke Fine Arts Scholarship was established by Elaine Zold Koepke, a Resurrection College Prep High School graduate from the Class of 1941, in honor of her love of the arts and especially dance. Mrs. Koepke taught dance to the grade school students at Resurrection during her junior and senior year to help pay for her educational expenses.  The Elaine Zold-Koepke Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded on an annual basis to an incoming freshmen, current freshman, sophomore or junior student who maintains a C average and finds a passion in the arts (music, dance, drama, art).  

Along with the application and essay, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their Res Fine Arts instructor or private fine arts teacher outlining the student's fine arts' accomplishments inside or outside of Resurrection College Prep High School.

The Heart of Chicago Scholarship is established by a Resurrection College Prep High School alumna to recognize the many families of Resurrection students who are employees of the City of Chicago.  Applicants must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior, demonstrate financial need and have a parent who is presently an active employee of the City of Chicago.

The Jessica Martin Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jessica Martin, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School’s Class of 2001 who died unexpectedly . The Jessica Martin Scholarship is a $1000 award that was established by an anonymous donor to honor the life and joy Jessica shared with the world. Applicants must be a junior level student maintaining a C average, demonstrate financial need and be involved in at least one extra-curricular or service activity in school, their parish or the community and emulate the qualities Jessica possessed: responsibility, friendliness, love of life, and a positive
attitude.

The Mary Guerrieri Bertolini Scholarship awards two (2) $1,000 scholarships dedicated to the memory of Mary Guerrieri Bertolini, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School, Class of 1978.  The Mary Guerrieri Bertolini Scholarship was established by Mary’s family in memory of the remarkable woman she was. Mary possessed a magnanimous personality, great strength, wonderful sense of humor, a spirit of volunteerism, determination, and love of life.  Applicants must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior student who demonstrate financial need, have overcome or is facing a challenging situation in her life and doing so with grace and courage, while maintaining a sense of humor.

The Danielle Marie Pisterzi Scholarship was established in Danielle’s memory in 2013 after an automobile accident. The scholarship fund was created at Resurrection College Prep and will be awarded to two Resurrection students who demonstrate the qualities that Danielle so beautifully exhibited. Danielle was completing a degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and is remembered by classmates as a hard-working, determined student and by family and friends for her infectious smile that led her to make friends with anyone she met. The two $1000 scholarships recognize juniors or seniors (current sophomores and juniors at the time of application) who are involved in extra-curricular activities at Resurrection College Prep.

The Matys-Rakoczy Scholarship was established in honor and loving memory of Chester and Estelle Matys and Joseph and Henrietta Rakoczy.  Marie Matys Rakoczy ’71 and her husband Joseph fund this scholarship to honor their parents who valued education and knew that it could make a great difference in the lives of their children. This $4,000 scholarship acknowledges a student who believes attending Resurrection College Prep High School is making a vital difference in her life and ability for future success. The Mertz Family Scholarship was established to recognize the sacrifices made by members of the law enforcement community and their families.  The scholarship is funded through the generosity of Jennifer Smith Mertz '87 and her husband.  Applicants for this $2,500 scholarship, must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior enrolled for the following school year, have a parent who is an active-duty law enforcement officer and share their personal talents by actively participating in co-curricular activities at Resurrection or another organization that is centered on or include service to others in it's mission.

The Nicole Brunke Scholarship is awarded in memory of Nicole, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School’s Class of 1989. At a young age, Nicole dedicated her life to caring for other people and found her calling to become a nurse.  She began volunteering at Resurrection Hospital as a candy striper when she was only 12 years old, and advanced to a position as nursing assistant when she turned 16.  She especially loved working on the pediatrics floor spending time with the children.  Nicole graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1992 and became a Registered Nurse.   In honor of Nicole, the Brunke family has established an endowed scholarship fund which awards a $1500 scholarship annually.  Applicants must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need, have current (or recent) volunteer experience in a health care facility or organization and an interest in pursuing a health-related career.

The Susan Fyda Scholarship was established in memory of Susan Fyda ’66  through a bequest she made to Resurrection College Prep High School.  A $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to a current freshman, sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need and is involved in the Fine or Performing Arts at Resurrection College Prep High School.

The Weber High School Alumni Scholarship was established by the Alumni of Weber High School and funded through their Annual Golf Outing and Annual Reunion Banquet.  This scholarship is awarded to current freshmen, sophomore or junior student(s) whose father, grandfather, uncle or brother was a graduate of Weber High School and has established financial need by completing a FACTS financial aid application. If no such student applies, the award will be given solely based on financial need.  The number and dollar amount of the scholarships awarded is based on the annual donation from the Weber Alumni Association each year.

The Wright Family Scholarship was established in loving memory of Aurelia Smigielska-Wright and her husband William Wright by their daughter, Joan Wright Boyd ’73.  The $2000 scholarship is presented annually to a current freshman, sophomore, or junior student who demonstrates financial need and is a participant in the Resurrection Strategies for Academic Success Program or has a parent who is physically challenged or chronically ill.

The Sr. Anne Scholarship Fund was established by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection in honor and loving memory of Sister Anne Strzelecka, C.R. In 1922, Sister Anne bought farmland upon which Resurrection College Prep was built. Sister Anne initiated the building of the school. Like the foundress of the Sister of the Resurrection, Sister Anne was committed to the education of women and believed that women have a special call for God to help transform society according to Gospel value. Sr. Anne was a religious woman of deep faith, a model leader with a commitment to serving the needs of others and committed to helping young women develop their God-given talents and achieve their dreams. Students in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade for the upcoming school year are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students must demonstrate financial need and submit an essay reflection about the roles faith and service have in their life. 

Application

The Fahey Scholarship was established by the generosity of Mary Matheis ’66 and her husband, Gerald Fahey.  The scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and maintains a C or above in each class. Applications are based on recommendation by the Resurrection College Prep High School Development Office. Students who meet donors criteria will be invited to apply.

The Resurrection College Prep Block Top Tester Scholarship awards $1,500 to the ten (10) students who score the highest on the entrance exam at Resurrection. The $1,500 is awarded for the student’s freshman year at Resurrection. The scholarship will be presented at the student’s 8th grade award presentation or graduation by a representative of Resurrection College Prep High School. No application necessary.

This scholarship was established by the family of alumna, Frances Slowik '31 in her memory.  The scholarship selects one freshman or sophomore recipient and one junior or senior recipient for their $500 award. All students are entered into a drawing for these scholarships. No applications are needed. 

The Big Shoulders Fund provides scholarships to deserving inner-city students at schools that provide quality, values-based education for Chicago’s children. The Madonna Scholars Program awards scholarships to female students of all faiths who demonstrate financial need and a desire for academic success. We are the only scholarship organization in the Chicago region focusing exclusively on women’s secondary education.

As students from first-generation and minority backgrounds, our scholars face barriers. The Madonna Foundation’s programming helps them overcome these barriers and acquire the confidence, critical skills, and competencies needed for success in high school, college, and beyond.

Before completing the online portion of the application, please be sure you meet the following requirements:

• Applying for admission to one of our partner all-girl Catholic schools as a freshman or a returning Madonna Scholar. Our partner high schools include Josephinum Academy, Resurrection High School, Trinity High School, Regina Dominican, Our Lady of Tepeyac, and Mother McAuley High School.
• Our income requirement for new incoming applicants is $15,000 per person in the family per year or less. For example, a family of four (4) with a total annual income of $60,000 or less would be eligible to apply; a family of four (4) with a total annual income of more than $60,000 per year would not be eligible.
• Applicants must complete a school financial aid application through their high school by March 17, 2025.

Online applications for the 2025-2026 school year will be available from February 1, 2025, to March 17, 2025. The Zac Plantz Memorial Scholarship is awarded to incoming high school freshmen who embody the mission of the Zac Plantz Foundation and honor the spirit of Zac through their commitment to academic, spiritual, and social growth.

HOW TO APPLY: The applicant must demonstrate a commitment to leadership, talent, and service. The scholarship will be presented to students who will positively contribute to their communities and show the potential to establish inspiring legacies of their own through their faith-based secondary education and extra-curricular involvement.

• All applicants for the 2024-2025 academic year must be an incoming freshman attending a Chicago-area Catholic high school.

HighSight Organization awards partial four-year scholarships for eighth grade students to attend quality private high schools in Chicago. Applicants must reside within the Chicago city limits, exhibit financial need, take the placement exam, and be accepted to the private high school of their choice, attend HighSight’s five-week Freshman Summer Program, and attend academic study sessions during the school year. The Sister Carmen de Barros Scholarship is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana and supports students of Hispanic descent. Students must apply as an incoming freshman and applications are due to the Sisters of St. Francis in the Spring each year.

The Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce is offering a $500 scholarship to current 8th graders who reside in the 60630 zip code. 

The Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce is offering two $500 scholarships to current 8th graders who reside in the 60630, 60646 or 60631 zip codes.

The Irish Fellowship Scholarship is supported by the Irish Fellowship Foundation and awarded to RES students whose Irish heritage have shaped their lives.
