Our Fall Athletic Banquet took place Monday, November 7 at White Eagle Events and Convention Center in Niles. At the event, coaches gave out awards and recapped their seasons. You can read a full recap below, which includes season highlights and all-conference award recipients.

Fall Sports Highlights

CROSS COUNTRY

  • At the St. Viator Invitational: Veronica Dworak placed 3rd overall, Shannon Smith placed 5th overall, and Kelly Fergus finished 6th in the JV race.
  • Team finished 3rd at the LFA Early Bird Invite: Emma Kantor placed 9th, Kelly Fergus placed 10th, and Maeve Hogan finished 11th.
  • Team defeated Regina on Senior Night: Kelly Fergus took 1st place, Emma Kantor finished 2nd, and Maeve Hogan took 3rd.
  • Maeve Hogan was the team’s top finisher at GCAC.
  • Kelly Fergus was the team’s top finisher at Regionals.

GOLF - VARSITY

  • Overall Record: 3-8.
  • Biggest Victory: Defeated rival Trinity.
  • Team finishes 8th place at GCAC and Regionals.
  • All players were first year varsity starters. With only one player departing, the coaching staff cannot wait to see what this team does next year!

GOLF – JUNIOR VARSITY

  • Overall Record: 2-4.
  • Biggest Victory: Defeated rival Regina. 
  • JV team consisted of all first year players except one. Every player improved their game throughout the season.

SWIMMING

  • JV team went undefeated this season!
  • JV swimmers Taylor Bartuch and Maeve Doherty both made the sectionals team. Their improvement this season was tremendous.
  • Varsity team was young with freshmen Linnea Warren, Signe Warren, and Bella Cintron all making the varsity team.
  • Signe Warren was the first player to make sectionals cuts, doing so at the Taft meet.
  • Team had success at multiple Invitationals this season, winning the Elgin Invitation; earning multiple individual ribbons at the St. Viator Invitational; and winning multiple relays at the Wheeling Relays Meet.
  • Jeanette Vazquez was a new recruit from water polo. The team hopes for more like this in the future.
  • Senior Megan Walsh showed up big on senior night. Posting personal bests in every race of her last meet.
  • Six swimmers posted personal bests at the MCAC Meet. This shows constant improvement throughout the season by the team.

TENNIS – VARSITY

  • GCAC Record: 3-3
  • Finished 2nd at GCAC Tournament. #1 Doubles Cece Koegler/Olivia Komosa took 3rd place. #2 Doubles Nicole Bosowski/Mia Schayer and #3 Doubles Danielle Toren/Brenna Early both took 2nd place.
  • Team came in 6th at Sectionals, beating two teams they had lost to during the season in Regina and Ridgewood.

TENNIS – JUNIOR VARSITY

  • Overall Record 12-0. GCAC Champions!
  • Team lost only one court all season in conference play.
  • All players learned new tennis skills and match play procedures.
  • Team was cohesive, supportive, and exhibited strong sportsmanship.
  • Tatum Garnhart went undefeated for the second year in a row.
  • Moira Walsh and Leah Thiel saved 4 match points, including three in a row in the GCAC Tournament.

VOLLEYBALL – VARSITY

  • Team went through a difficult stretch where they competed with nearly every team, including seven 3-set losses, but could not get over the hump.
  • All the hard work paid off with a cathartic 3-set win over Lane Tech. From there the team enjoyed two 2-set wins over DePaul and rival Regina.
  • The coaches are proudest of the resilience this team showed, keeping focused through an entire season of learning and growth, and portraying that on the court near seasons end.
  • Team won an IHSA playoff game before falling to #1 seed Vernon Hills.

VOLLEYBALL – JUNIOR VARSITY

  • Overall Record: 10-23
  • Biggest Wins: Regina and DePaul.
  • Placed 1st at the Palatine Invitational.
  • Team played with heart and for each other all season.

VOLLEYBALL – FRESHMEN

  • Season started off slow for both teams; the girls turned this around and everyone was playing well by midseason.
  • Biggest Wins Freshmen A: Team defeated DePaul in the Conant Tournament to take 2nd place. Team ended the season with a 32-30 third set win over Niles West!
  • Biggest Wins Freshmen B: Team blew out rival Regina and got a big win against Lane Tech in tournament play.
  • All players did great serving to zones. Team defense picked up as the season progressed leading to many kills.
