Scholarships and Financial Aid

1. How do I apply for Financial Aid? What documents are required?

   The need-based financial aid application opened on December 4, 2021, and closes on January 17, 2022, for incoming 9th-grade students. The application is due on February 4, 2022, for families with girls enrolled in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the 2022-23 school year.

   Please read this entire section.
   Financial Aid applications and supporting documents are only accepted online via FACTS. Please start your online application early.  It can take up to two weeks for FACTS to verify the submitted tax information.  You may add one or more students to the same application. The application fee is $30.00. 

   You will need your 2020 Federal Income Tax Return, 2021 W-2s and supporting documents and schedules. You will also submit W-2s for the co-applicant. All documents must be uploaded to FACTS, documents are not accepted at school and we cannot upload them for families.

   If you have an existing FACTS username and password, select "Sign In".  If you are a new FACTS user please select "Create a username & password" to begin.  Then click on Start Application.  Select the appropriate school year,  complete the steps as prompted, submit the application payment of $30 and upload your 2020 Federal Tax Return, supporting schedules, and 2021 W2s.

   FACTS will notify families via email when the application is complete. If the information supplied is incomplete, please review the incomplete notice from FACTS, and supply the missing documents as soon as possible. It can take up to another two weeks for those documents to be verified.
   
   Resurrection College Prep will not review incomplete applications, so we advise you to regularly check your email for FACTS updates. Please add noreply@FACTSmgt.com to your address book to ensure you receive all notifications.
   
   If a third party (ie, relative, ex-spouse, friend, etc.) contributes to the student's education expenses, that contribution amount must be noted in the financial aid application. You will list your financial responsibility in percentage terms. (i.e. 75% responsibility) Please state the tuition contribution of the other party, also in percentage terms. If the other party is a parent then that party must also fill out a financial aid application.
   
   Read the next section on "who is eligible for financial aid" for more information on financial relationships and obligations regarding the financial aid application. Resurrection College Prep reserves the right to revoke financial aid if the information reported in the application is false or misleading.

2. Who is eligible, and who should fill out an application for Financial Aid? What about students of divorced, separated or never married parents?

   Current students seeking need-based tuition assistance should apply for Resurrection College Prep financial aid beginning December 4, 2021, of the preceding school year. Resurrection College Prep will review only completed and verified financial aid applications. Please start your application early!

   To make an equitable decision, Resurrection College Prep considers the assets and liabilities of all parties who are likely to contribute to the household and expenses for the student, notwithstanding any agreements between parties or divorce decrees. Therefore both parents must fill out a financial aid application. Applications of divorced or separated parents are "linked”. Resurrection College Prep is able to see all applications for financial aid for students who are “linked”.  However, parents cannot view one another's linked application. Parents and step-parents who live in the same household are considered co-applicants.  Each co-applicant must answer the financial questions and provide appropriate tax returns and W-2's. Divorced parents are also required to upload their divorce decree.

3. What are some frequently used financial aid terms?

   Applicant - The parent or guardian of the student applying for financial aid.

   Co-Applicant - The other parent, or step-parent of the student, living in the same household with the Applicant.

   Marital Status - Indicates if the applicant is Married, Single, Widowed, Separated, or Divorced.  Please use Divorced and not Single if you were once married.

   Linked Applicant - The divorced, separated or never married parent of the student for whom aid is being requested, who does not live in the same household with the student, but who shares custody of the student.

   Linked Co-Applicant - The partner or spouse to the linked applicant, living in the same household with the linked applicant.

   Verified (VER) Application - Indicates that everything needed to compete the financial aid assessment has been reviewed for completeness by FACTS.  All supporting documents and schedules to the federal income tax return have been submitted and verified.

   Submitted (SBM) - The application has been submitted but not reviewed or verified by FACTS.

   Incomplete (INC) - The application has been reviewed by FACTS and found to be incomplete.  FACTS will notify the applicant of the incomplete status and list missing documents in an email notice.

   Documents in Process (DOC) - Indicates that documents have been received but not reviewed or verified by FACTS.

   Does Not File (DNF) - Indicates that the family does not file a tax return.  In these cases other documents will be required to verify income.

4. What if my taxes are not completed by the application deadline?

Resurrection College Prep accepts the Federal Income Tax return(s) with corresponding schedules, from the prior year. Forms should include a W-2 from the corresponding tax year.

Accessing Resurrection FACTS Application

Q: How do I access the FACTS application? Will I need to create an account? A: FACTS applications can be accessed using the following link: https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/423XT. Yes, you will need to create a username and password to log into FACTS.
Q: If I currently use FACTS at my child's grammar school or another high school, how do I access the RES application? A: Use this link to access the RES application OR under the 'School' section, search for RES using our 60631 zip code, and then select Resurrection from the dropdown.

Final Steps, Submitting My Application

Q: When I submit my FACTS application, I receive a message that it will take two weeks to process. Does this mean, I've missed the submission deadline? A: No; every application takes up to two weeks to process and verify. You may be asked to submit additional documentation during this process. Please check your email regularly.

Scholarships and FACTS Applications

Q: Do I need to complete the FACTS application if my daughter is going to apply for a Resurrection scholarship? A: Yes, students applying for Resurrection scholarships need to complete the FACTS application.

Alumnae Scholarship

The Alumnae Scholarship is presented by the Resurrection College Prep High School Alumnae Association to recognize alumnae heritage.  Any current freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior student whose mother, grandmother(s), aunt(s) or sister(s) are Resurrection alumnae are eligible to apply for one of the four $1000 scholarships.  Recipients will be based on alumnae heritage, financial need and good academic standing. Applications available in November each year for the current school year. 

Essay Prompt -
List alumnae related to student (sister, mother, grandmother, aunt) include maiden name, year of graduation and, relation to applicant. Explain the following:

1. How have the alumnae in your family benefitted from attending Resurrection?
2. How is attending Resurrection making a difference in your life? 
3. List any volunteer and extracurricular activities that you are involved in and explain any special circumstances that should be considered when evaluating your application.

Burchard Scholarship

The Burchard Scholarship is a $500 scholarship established in honor of Grace and Ellen Burchard by Patricia DiBenedetto '43.  The Burchard Scholarship helps fulfill the promise Patricia made to follow in the charitable footsteps of her grandmother.  Applicants must be a current freshman, sophomore, or junior, demonstrate financial need and participate in extra-curriculars at Resurrection.

Charlotte Lennon Memorial Scholarship

The Charlotte Lennon Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Charlotte Lennon '78 who died in a car accident at the age of 21.  This $1000 scholarship was established by Charlotte's family so they could help young women further their education. Applicants must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior and demonstrate a passion for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Student must demonstrate a financial need.

Christine Olender Fine Arts Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of Christine Olender, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School’s Class of 1980, who was the assistant general manager at the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Center, where she had worked from 1996 to 2001. Christine was one of the countless victims lost in the tragic terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.  Thanks to the tremendous generosity of Christine’s family, friends and fellow Resurrection alumnae, an endowed scholarship fund provides for a $1000 scholarship each year to a current freshman, sophomore or junior student who demonstrates financial need has interest and involvement in the Fine Arts and is of Polish descent.

The Class of 1969 Scholarship in Memory of Sr. Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R.

The Class of 1969 Scholarship in Memory of Sr. Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R. was established through the generosity of the alumnae of the Resurrection Class of 1969. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman in gratitude to Sr. Lydia Mary Yokiel, C.R. for the guidance she provided as Principal of Resurrection for 10 years.

Applicants must be an incoming freshman, demonstrate financial need via a completed FACTS financial aid application (not to be confused with a FACTS account) and submit an essay using the prompt below.

Danielle Marie Pisterzi Scholarship

The Danielle Marie Pisterzi Scholarship was established in Danielle’s memory in 2013 after an automobile accident. The scholarship fund was created at Resurrection College Prep and will be awarded to two Resurrection students who demonstrate the qualities that Danielle so beautifully exhibited. Danielle was completing a degree in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and is remembered by classmates as a hard-working, determined student and by family and friends for her infectious smile that led her to make friends with anyone she met. The two $1000 scholarships recognize juniors or seniors who are involved in extra-curricular activities at Resurrection College Prep.

Devotion to Books Scholarship

Jann DeLaMoreaux, OCDS graduated from Resurrection College Prep High School in 1966. Jann moved to California but continued to be a generous supporter of her alma mater, Resurrection. Jann was an avid reader and a devoted Catholic. She was a member of the secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. Upon her death in 2019, she left a generous scholarship fund to Resurrection College Prep High School entitled “Devotion to Books Scholarship".

Eligibility Selection of the recipients of this scholarship should be made annually and based upon the following criteria:

A young woman enrolling/attending Resurrection College Prep High School who:

• Enjoys reading – a “bookworm”
• Has a current grade point average of 2.0 (C) or higher
• Is recommended by the faculty

The Devotion to Books Scholarship provides a $1,500 one-year award
One scholarship is awarded annually

Dr. Carrie Hall Jaworski Leadership Scholarship

The Dr. Carrie Hall Jaworski Scholarship was established through the generosity of Dr. Carrie Hall Jaworski ’88 to recognize a current freshman, sophomore or junior student with financial need who shares her leadership abilities with the community.  Dr. Jaworski believes the leadership opportunities Resurrection College Prep High School provided to her as a young woman was instrumental in her future successes. For that reason, she wants to help other young women reach their leadership potential with this $500 scholarship.

Dr. Chris Kelly Student Mentor Scholarship 

The Dr. Chris Kelly Student Mentor Scholarship is in memory of Dr. Chris Kelly, Resurrection College Prep High School Class of 1959 – wife, mother, teacher and mentor. While raising three children, Dr. Kelly taught Mathematics at Resurrection College Prep High School spanning a 30-year period and served on numerous boards. Her commitment to mentoring led her to create the Practicum Program at Resurrection College Prep High School.  She was a firm believer in mentoring students and teachers. This $2000 scholarship is to promote and continue her legacy through mentoring and is presented each year to a current freshman, sophomore or junior student who demonstrates financial need and consistently provides tutorial or mentoring services to other students.

Elaine Zold-Koepke Fine Arts Scholarship 

The Elaine Zold-Koepke Fine Arts Scholarship was established by Elaine Zold Koepke, a Resurrection College Prep High School graduate from the Class of 1941, in honor of her love of the arts and especially dance. Mrs. Koepke taught dance to the grade school students at Resurrection during her junior and senior year to help pay for her educational expenses.  The Elaine Zold-Koepke Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded on an annual basis to an incoming freshmen, current freshman, sophomore or junior student who maintains a C average and finds a passion in the arts (music, dance, drama, art).  

Along with the application and essay, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their Res Fine Arts instructor or private fine arts teacher outlining the student's fine arts' accomplishments inside or outside of Resurrection College Prep High School.

Florence and Johanna Scholarship

The Florence and Johanna Scholarship was established in support of the mission of Resurrection College Prep High School, and is funded by an anonymous friend of the school to honor family members.  Three $2500 scholarships are awarded each year to a sophomore, junior and senior. Applicants are invited to apply based on criteria established by the donor. Student must demonstrate a financial need.

The Heart of Chicago Scholarship is established by a Resurrection College Prep High School alumna to recognize the many families of Resurrection students who are employees of the City of Chicago.  Applicants must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior, demonstrate financial need and have a parent who is presently an active employee of the City of Chicago.

Irish Fellowship Educational and Cultural Foundation Scholarship

The Irish Fellowship Education and Cultural Foundation sponsors scholarships each fall for current students of Irish descent. Quantity and dollar amount of the scholarship varies from year to year. At the donor’s request, preference will be given to  students of Irish descent. Student must demonstrate a financial need. 

This scholarship will open in the fall of the 2022-23 school year.

Jessica Martin Scholarship

The Jessica Martin Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Jessica Martin, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School’s Class of 2001 who died unexpectedly . The Jessica Martin Scholarship is a $1000 award that was established by an anonymous donor to honor the life and joy Jessica shared with the world. Applicants must be a junior level student maintaining a C average, demonstrate financial need and be involved in at least one extra-curricular or service activity in school, their parish or the community and emulate the qualities Jessica possessed:  responsibility, friendliness, love of life, and a positive
attitude.

John P. and Margaret M. Loftus Scholarship

The John P. and Margaret M. Loftus Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of John P. and Margaret M. Loftus and was established by their family as a memorial to their parents who believed education is the key to a successful future and that education creates opportunities for that success. The $500 - $2000 scholarship is awarded to a current freshman, sophomore or junior in good standing who work to their full academic capacity and have a strong work ethic; show leadership and community involvement; are respected by their peers and teachers and demonstrate financial need by having completed the FACTS Application.

This scholarship was established to fulfill the dream of one day being able to give back. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a current sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need. Please describe how a female role model (grandmother, friend, a woman in history, etc.) has impacted your life and shaped the person you have become. Has this person influenced your professional aspirations? If so, how? Did this person inspire you to participate in any passions or hobbies that are important to you? If so, how? Did this influence make attending an all-girls high school important to you? 

These questions are meant as a guide in writing your essay, however, you are not limited to these topics and may write about another way your female role model impacted you.

Knudsen Family Band Scholarship | Only Open to Incoming Freshmen

The Knudsen Family Band Scholarship was established by Jon and Anne-Judine Knudsen in honor of their daughters, Mary Frances ’04 and Kirsten ’06.  Mary and Kirsten were both four-year band members during their time at Resurrection and both young women earned the distinction of drum majorette.  The Knudsen family appreciates the level of commitment and discipline required by the band members as they collaborate with their individual talents to create beautiful music together.

This $1000 scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to an incoming freshman who expresses a desire to be part of the Notre Dame/Resurrection College Prep High School Band and dedicates herself to improving her talents and sharing them with the community.

Mark Teach Scholarship

The Mark Teach Scholarship was named for the infant son of Gordon and Mary Teach. Gordon Teach was a friend of the Sisters of the Resurrection for over 35 years, beginning when he first served as trustee for Resurrection Health Care. Highly impressed with the various functions that he attended at Resurrection College Prep High School over the years, he felt inspired to help with the Sisters’ mission of educating young women by establishing a scholarship. The $2000 scholarship is available to current freshman, sophomore or junior students who demonstrate financial need, have current (or recent) volunteer/work experience at Resurrection Medical Center and have interest in pursuing a health-related career.

Matys-Rakoczy Scholarship

The Matys-Rakoczy Scholarship was established in honor and loving memory of Chester and Estelle Matys and Joseph and Henrietta Rakoczy.  Marie Matys Rakoczy ’71 and her husband Joseph fund this scholarship to honor their parents who valued education and knew that it could make a great difference in the lives of their children.  This $2000 scholarship acknowledges a student who believes attending Resurrection College Prep High School is making a vital difference in her life and ability for future success. Applicants must be a current freshman or sophomore student who demonstrates financial need and believes attending Resurrection College Prep High School is making a vital difference in her life and ability for future success.

Mary Guerrieri Bertolini Scholarship

The Mary Guerrieri Bertolini Scholarship awards two $1000 scholarships dedicated to the memory of Mary Guerrieri Bertolini, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School Class of 1978.  The Mary Guerrieri Bertolini Scholarship was established by Mary’s family in memory of the remarkable woman she was.  Mary possessed a magnanimous personality, great strength, wonderful sense of humor, a spirit of volunteerism, determination, and love of life.  Applicants must be a current freshman, sophomore or junior student who demonstrate financial need, have overcome or is facing a challenging situation in her life and doing so with grace and courage, while maintaining a sense of humor.

Men's Club Scholarship

The Men's Club Scholarship is awarded thanks to the generosity of the Resurrection College Prep Men's Club.  Two $500 awards are available to current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior students who demonstrate financial need and complete an essay on a special father figure or male role model in their life.

The Mertz Family Scholarship

The Mertz Family Scholarship was established to recognize the sacrifices made by members of the law enforcement community and their families.  The scholarship is funded through the generosity of Jennifer Smith Mertz '87 and her husband.  Applicants for this $2500 scholarship, must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior enrolled for the following school year, have a parent who is an active-duty law enforcement officer and share their personal talents by actively participating in co-curricular activities at Resurrection or another organization that is centered on or include service to others in it's mission. Student must demonstrate a financial need.

Nicole Brunke Scholarship 

The Nicole Brunke Scholarship is awarded in memory of Nicole, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School’s Class of 1989. At a young age, Nicole dedicated her life to caring for other people and found her calling to become a nurse.  She began volunteering at Resurrection Hospital as a candy striper when she was only 12 years old, and advanced to a position as nursing assistant when she turned 16.  She especially loved working on the pediatrics floor spending time with the children.  Nicole graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1992 and became a Registered Nurse.   In honor of Nicole, the Brunke family has established an endowed scholarship fund which awards a $1500 scholarship annually.  Applicants must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need, have current (or recent) volunteer experience in a health care facility or organization and an interest in pursuing a health-related career.

The Patty Kusinski Smith Scholarship

The Patty Kusinski Smith Scholarship was established in honor of Patty Kusinski Smith '79 by Ed and Peggy Kusinski and family to pay tribute to their sister. As a student at Resurrection, Patty developed her interests, talents and passions as a member of the volleyball team and a Res Banner staff member.  The $2000 Patty Kusinski Smith Memorial Scholarship recognizes students that are involved in Journalism at Resurrection as a member of the Res Banner or Allegiance Staff, who, like Patty, are developing their own interests, passions and talents.  Applicants must be a current freshmen, sophomore or junior who is currently participating at Res as a member of the Res Banner or Allegiance Yearbook staff. Student must demonstrate a financial need.

Pay It Forward Scholarship

The Pay It Forward Scholarship was established in honor of Arthur J. Slack (CPD, CFD) and George D. Slack (CPD) and their service to the City of Chicago.  It is funded through the generosity of Nancy Slack Stachnik ‘67 and members of the Slack Family.  Two scholarships are awarded each year in the amount of $1000 to the daughter of an active-duty Chicago firefighter, paramedic or Chicago police officer.  Applicants must be an incoming freshman student enrolled for the following school year, demonstrate financial need and have a parent who is an active-duty Chicago firefighter or paramedic or Chicago police officer.

Raider/Bandit Scholarship | Only Open to Incoming Freshmen

The Raider/Bandit Scholarship recognizes graduates of St. Tarcissus Catholic School, Pope Francis Global Academy or St. Elizabeth of the Trinity who are also members of the St. Tarcissus Parish and will be attending Resurrection College Prep High School. The scholarship recognize students who best exemplifies school spirit and current students who active in service and co-curriculars in the Resurrection community and best exemplifies school spirit. One $1,500 scholarship will be presented to an incoming freshman, current freshman, sophomore, or junior.

School spirit is an important part of a grammar school and high school experience. Tell us about a time in grammar school and/or in high school when you were particularly proud to be a member of the St. Tarcissus and Resurrection College Prep communities.

Sr. Anne Scholarship Fund is established by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection in honor and loving memory of Sister Anne Strzelecka, C.R. In 1922 Sister Anne bought farmland upon which Resurrection College Prep was built. Sister Anne initiated the building of the school. Like the foundress of the Sister of the Resurrection, Sister Anne was committed to the education of women and believed that women have a special call for God to help transform society according to Gospel value. This is a one-time award of $2,000; more than one recipient receives the award annually.

Sr. Mary Evelyn Giemza, C.R. RN Scholarship 

The Sr. Mary Evelyn Giemza, C.R. RN Scholarship was established through the generosity of The Council of Catholic Nurses of the Archdiocese of Chicago in honor of their longtime member Sr. Mary Evelyn to acknowledge a deserving current junior student with an interest in becoming a nurse.  Student must be a current junior student in good standing. 

Recipients will be required to volunteer visiting the sick at least once a month in a hospital, community, nursing home or crisis center setting. They will need a written verification of the community service and will write monthly about their service. Writings will be compiled annually and shared with the Council of Catholic Nurses of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Note: Due to the current pandemic, the Res Development Office along with the Council of Nurses are happy to work with the recipient on ways to fulfill this requirement.

The Susan Bernardi Fosco Scholarship was established in honor and loving memory of Susan Bernardi Fosco '73, by her husband and their children.  A $1000 scholarship is awarded to a current freshman, sophomore, or junior who demonstrates financial need and has an interest in pursuing a career in a science or healthcare.

The Susan Fyda Scholarship was established in memory of Susan Fyda ’66  through a bequest she made to Resurrection College Prep High School.  A $1000 scholarship is awarded each year to a current freshman, sophomore or junior who demonstrates financial need and is involved in the Fine or Performing Arts at Resurrection College Prep High School.

Thomasetta Czajkowski Solak Scholarship

The Thomasetta Czajkowski Solak Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Tomi Solak '58, who was a prolific decorative painter.  The $1000 scholarship has been established by Tomi's family and friends to help young women further their talents in art, leadership, and self-expression.  Sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply and must demonstrate involvement in the visual arts, be academically motivated, show initiative and leadership and exhibit financial need. 

Tony Mazzulla Scholarship

The Tony Mazzulla Scholarship was established in memory of Tony Mazzulla, a teacher at Resurrection College Prep High School for nearly 30 years.  Mr. Mazzulla inspired thousands of students to pursue continuing education and careers in History, International Business or Political Science.  In that spirit, a $1000 Tony Mazzulla Scholarship is awarded annually to a current Resurrection College Prep High School junior or senior who is planning to pursue a degree in Political Science, History, International Relations, or International Business in college and  maintains a 3.5 GPA.

Tori Neumann Scholarship

The Tori Neumann Scholarship was established in memory of Victoria Neumann, a graduate of Resurrection College Prep High School Class of 2014. In her junior year, Tori was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (muscle cancer). The $1000 scholarship recognizes students who are facing a personal challenge with the inner strength, faith, courage and tenacity that Tori maintained during her battle with cancer. Student must demonstrate a financial need.

Weber Alumni Scholarship

The Weber High School Alumni Scholarship was established by the Alumni of Weber High School and funded through their Annual Golf Outing and Annual Reunion Banquet.  This scholarship is awarded to current freshmen, sophomore or junior student(s) whose father, grandfather, uncle or brother was a graduate of Weber High School and has established financial need by completing a PSAS. If no such student applies, the award will be given solely based on financial need.  The number and dollar amount of the scholarships awarded is based on the annual donation from the Weber Alumni Association each year.

The Wright Family Scholarship 

The Wright Family Scholarship was established in loving memory of Aurelia Smigielska-Wright and her husband William Wright by their daughter, Joan Wright Boyd ’73.  The $2000 scholarship is presented annually to a current freshman, sophomore, or junior student who demonstrates financial need and is a participant in the Resurrection Strategies for Academic Success Program or has a parent who is physically challenged or chronically ill.

Do you have a passion or driving force in life?  If so, how will your education at Resurrection feed this passion or strengthen your driving force?  Write down six words that best describe what you hope to get from an education at Resurrection. Fahey Scholarship 

The Fahey Scholarship was established by the generosity of Mary Matheis ’66 and her husband, Gerald Fahey.  The scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need and maintains a C or above in each class.  Applications are based on recommendation by the Resurrection College Prep High School Development Office. Students who meet donors criteria will be invited to apply.

The Resurrection College Prep Block Top Tester Scholarship

The Resurrection College Prep Block Top Tester Scholarship awards $1500 to the ten students who score the highest on the Entrance Exam at Resurrection. The $1500 is awarded for the student’s freshman year at Resurrection. The scholarship will be presented at the student’s 8th grade award presentation or graduation by a representative of Resurrection College Prep High School. No application necessary.

Frances Slowik Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the family of alumna, Frances Slowik '31 in her memory.  The scholarship selects one freshman or  sophomore recipient and one junior or senior recipient for their $500 award.  All students are entered into a drawing for these scholarships.  No applications are needed.
