International Thespian Society

Moderator - Ms. Mary Katherine Bohlander

Active members of the Drama Club are eligible to be inducted as members of the International Thespian Society.

Drama Club members earn points by working as performers and technicians on productions both in school and in the community.

• The International Thespian Society point system is the standard for awarding and tracking eligibility points.  The troupe director may modify the point system as appropriate for the program.
• The troupe director may use discretion in awarding points according to the student's quality of work and cooperation. Quality may include the caliber of the work done and the educational value of the experience.
• Students who have met the minimum requirements set forth in the troupe's approved Thespian Point System will be inducted upon payment of the induction dues. Students must earn 10 points (equivalent to 100 hours of work) as both a performer and technician. The work may be accomplished in two main stage productions; four one-act or festival productions; or a combination of variety of main stage with other performances and productions. Of the 10 points needed for induction, only 5 points may have been earned on productions in the community.
• Students continue to earn points after being inducted.
• The Thespian troupe director makes the final decision regarding the awarding of Thespian points.
• New inductees become members of the school's Thespian Troupe for life.
• Thespians that have remained active in our school or at another school through senior year are eligible for the Thespian cord and tassel.
• Under no circumstances are students elected to become members of the International Thespian Society. Student peers may not take an active role in determining the induction eligibility of their fellow students.
• The International Thespian Society forbids hazing of prospective, new or current members.

Mu Alpha Theta

Moderator - Ms. Karen Groszek

Mu Alpha Theta (ΜΑΘ) is a national high school and junior/community college mathematics club for honors students that is co-sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. The name Mu Alpha Theta was constructed from the Greek lettering for the phonemes m, a, and th.  As of June 2017, more than 110,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta Members at more than 2,400 schools in the United States and in 20 foreign countries.

The mission of Mu Alpha Theta is to provide a method for schools to recognize and encourage those students who enjoy and excel in mathematics.

Any high school students in grades 9 through 12, who have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and geometry, and in addition have completed or are enrolled in a still more advanced course, are eligible for membership providing their mathematical work was done with distinction.

Resurrection Mu Alpha Theta requirements

In order for a student to be considered for membership into Mu Alpha Theta the following requirements are needed:

• The student must have completed the equivalent of two years of mathematics courses and are currently enrolled in an advanced mathematics course.
• Student must have a least a B cumulative average in her math class
• Student must have at least a B cumulative average overall
• Student must have been an active member in the math club for at least two years
• Student must have completed a project in one math course

Note:

Students inducted into the Resurrection College Prep High School's Cervantes Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta receive a certificate of recognition from ΜΑΘ and their names are registered with the national chapter.  They will also receive ΜΑΘ graduation honor cords in May (purchased by student).

National English Honor Society

Moderator - Ms. Nicole McGrath

The National English Honor Society (NEHS) is the only international organization exclusively for high school students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments.

Membership is open to high school students and select faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability in such areas as literary analysis, media studies, composition, linguistic study, and creative writing, and who meet the requirements of membership.

Membership in NEHS is by invitation, extended through a local chapter on behalf of the national organization. Membership in NEHS is an honor bestowed on individuals selected for their accomplishments in the field of English and in overall academic achievement.

The NEHS Constitution sets forth as minimum requirements for active membership the following:

• attendance at the school the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered. (If special circumstances merit, the Faculty Advisory Council may waive the semester regulation);

• completion of the equivalent of two semesters of English prior to induction as members;
• the achievement of a minimum overall and English grade point average of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) prior to induction as members; and
• submission and payment of the new member enrollment via NEHS Connect.

These criteria may be raised, but not lowered, by the local chapter, but criteria must be based solely on demonstrable academic matters.

National Honor Society

Moderator - Mr. Chris Hawker

The National Honor Society is a prestigious organization that serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  

To be eligible for admission to the Resurrection NHS Chapter, you must be a current sophomore, junior or senior, and possess a cumulative GPA of 3.75.  Invitations for potential membership and induction will be offered early in the first semester.

It is both an accomplishment and honor to be invited to apply to the National Honor Society, and it will require you to continue to maintain the high standards of scholarship, leadership, character, and service that the NHS requires.

Understand that being a NHS member of the Charity and Truth Chapter at Resurrection College Prep is truly an honor. You are held to a higher standard than all other Resurrection students, and you must personally exhibit leadership, good character, scholarship and service on a daily basis. You must submit 50 hours of service each full year of membership. You must maintain a 3.75  cumulative G.P.A, as well as serving throughout the school year as an academic tutor for your Resurrection College Prep peers. Dues are $20 each year.

To apply, you will need to complete the application that you will receive from the NHS moderator, submit two teacher recommendations, and document completion of a minimum of 10 service hours by the due date specified in the application. The application will contain specific and pertinent information related to these requirements.

Formal induction for new members will take place in the spring, with the specific date and time to be decided, at the Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

Quill and Scroll Honor Society

Moderator - Ms. Nicole McGrath

Membership to the Quill and Scroll Honor Society is open to media staff members in a chartered high school.

There are no annual dues. When a candidate is recommended for membership, he or she pays a one-time initiation fee. The Society then provides the initiate with an official membership pin, membership certificate, and a one-year subscription to Quill & Scroll Magazine. Members of the Quill and Scroll Honor Society must be chosen from students enrolled in the high school who, at the time of their recommendation, meet the following requirements:

• They must be of sophomore, junior, or senior classification

• They must have the equivalent of a B grade average, or be in the upper third of their class in general scholastic standing, either for the year of their election or for the cumulative total of all high school work.

• They must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school media work. They may be staffers of a magazine, newspaper, yearbook, news organization, online site, or radio/television station at the school, or one conducted by an external organization.

• They must be recommended by the supervisor or by the committee governing the media.

• They must be approved by the Quill and Scroll Executive Director.

Science National Honor Society

Moderator - Dr. Megan Leider

Purpose of Club: The purpose of the Science National Honors Society (SNHS) is to challenge our students to explore cutting edge research and the latest technologies and share them with members of our school community and beyond. We strive to strengthen the love and understanding of science and share that knowledge with fellow students and the community at large. We give students the opportunity to visit scientific labs and hear speakers in the professional fields of STEM. We offer recognition for students who have successfully completed a 4-year course of science study with an excellent academic record. We challenge our juniors and seniors to use their knowledge that they have gained in our core courses here at Resurrection and to strengthen the love and understanding of STEM related jobs and career.

Events: Field Trips & Community Outreach

Description: As a member of SNHS, students will have opportunities to visit many science museums and events. Field Trip locations are determined by the members and approved by the officers.

Additionally, SNHS is dedicated to outreach activities that focus on bringing inquiry to area in grade schools in need. SNHS students create lesson plans and then travel to local grade schools to teach the lesson to students grades K-12.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica

Moderator - Ms. Lesley Coakley

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).

The SHH was formally organized as the Spanish National Honor Society in 1953. The name was changed to Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica in 1959. At present there are more than 2,000 national and international chapters of the SHH.

The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.

All accredited secondary schools are eligible to charter a chapter.

Chapter sponsors must be active members of the AATSP.

Any secondary school student who has maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three semesters and is in the 10th grade or higher is eligible to be a member of the SHH. The definition of "honor grade" is left to the discretion of each chapter. It should be remembered that the SHH is an honor society for those students of high academic achievement.

Resurrection Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica requirements:

• 93% (A-) or higher for both semesters of Acc. Spanish 1
• 93% (A-) or higher for both semesters of Acc. Spanish 2
• 93% (A-) or higher for 1st semester of Acc. Spanish 3

Note:

1. Students are inducted in their 3rd or 4th year of Accelerated/AP Spanish
2. If a regular Spanish 1 student is moved up to Accelerated Spanish 2 the following year and maintains 93% or higher in subsequent years of Accelerated Spanish, she will be inducted.
3. It is expected that students maintain a 93% average or higher for five semesters of Accelerated Spanish.  However, a student will be considered if one of these semesters was a 91% or 92% (B+).
4. A high-achieving AP Spanish student can be inducted based on improvement and dedication.
5. Students inducted into the Resurrection College Prep High School's Cervantes Chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica receive a certificate of recognition from the AATSP and their names are registered with the national chapter.  The highest-achieving senior(s) will be awarded the AATSP's distinguished "Medal of Excellence" in May.

Societa Onoraria Italica (Italian Honor Society)

Moderator - Mr. Campobasso

The Società Onoraria Italica is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI) for secondary schools. The purpose of this organization is to stimulate interest in the study of Italian, to give recognition to scholarship achievement in Italian, and to promote an understanding and appreciation of Italian culture and civilization.

Italian instructors of each school chapter must be members of the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI).

Resurrection Società Onoraria Italica requirements:

• 93% (A-) or higher for both semesters of Italian 1
• 93% (A-) or higher for both semesters of Honors Italian 2
• 93% (A-) or higher for 1st semester of Honors Italian 3

Note:

1. Students are inducted in their 3rd or 4th year of Honors Italian.

2. It is expected that students maintain a 93% average or higher for five semesters. However, a student will be considered if one of these semesters was a 91% or 92% (B+).

3. Students are required and pledge continued commitment to the study of Italian by studying the language in Honors Italian 4.

4. Seniors in Honors Italian 4, maintaining a 93% or higher average, will receive a red cord upon graduation.

5. A student will be dropped from Società Onoraria Italica if she does not continue studying the language in the 4th year and is ineligible for a red cord.

6. Inducted seniors enrolled in Honors Italian 3, who have maintained an A- average for six semesters will receive a red cord.

7. Students are required to tutor in Italian for NHS.

8. Students are required to maintain a bulletin board in Italian to promote language and culture.

9. Service project: Students are required, as a group, to plan, organize and donate a “gift basket” toward a school sponsored fundraiser.

10. Students inducted into the Resurrection College Prep High School’s Dante Alighieri Chapter of Società Onoraria Italica receive a certificate of recognition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI).
